O’Shea reverses fortunes to claim Brno second row start
Eddie O’Shea to start CzechGP Moto3 race from sixth on the grid

After an unfortunate disqualification from Friday’s Practice session, GRYD Racing’s Eddie O’Shea turned his luck round in the two Qualifying sessions at Automotodrom Brno to claim a place on the second row of the grid for tomorrow’s race.
The SIC58 Squadra Corse duo of Leo Rammerstorfer and Casey O’Gorman, along with Zen Mitani (Honda Team Asia), Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing), Nicola Carraro (Rivacold Snipers Team) and O’Shea were all in action in Q1, where the track temperatures approached 50C.
Fernandez and O’Gorman started the session with some strong lap times, placing them inside the promotion places, while Carraro had his lap time disallowed. With lap times tumbling in the closing stages, it was O’Gorman, O’Shea and Fernandez who had done enough to move through to the following session. Rammerstorfer, who will have to serve a long lap penalty during tomorrow’s race, was ninth, while Mitani was 11th and Carraro was 12th.
The temperatures continued to rise for the second Moto3 Qualifying session of the day, where seven Honda riders were in action. Jesus Rios (Rivacold Snipers Team) was an early faller at Turn 6 and was unable to return to the track until the final moments. Throughout the 15 minutes, there were several Honda riders challenging for the front few rows.
When the chequered flag was waved it was O’Shea who was the highest placed NSF250RW rider. The Brit had a point to prove following his disqualification yesterday and was able to reverse his fortunes to set the sixth fastest time and claim a place on the second row of the grid. Lining up on the row behind him will be Honda Team Asia’s Veda Pratama and GRYD Racing teammate Joel Kelso, who were eighth and ninth respectively.
O’Gorman ended the session in tenth place, while the Leopard Racing pair were 12th and 13th, with Guido Pini (who was last year’s polesitter at Brno) edging out Fernandez by only 0.003 seconds. Rios was able to get back out on track to set a time in the closing stages of Q2 and was 15th.
Tomorrow’s Moto3 race, which will get underway at 11am local time, will see the riders tackle 16 laps of Automotodrom Brno.
