Stroll P21, Alonso P22 in Barcelona-Catalunya GP Qualifying
Round 7, Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix Qualifying took place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Q1 began in extremely hot conditions, with an air temperature of 31°C, track temperature of 50°C and humidity of 30%.
One minute after the start of Q1, Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso headed out on track, both on soft tyres. By the six-minute mark, seven cars had set times, and Alonso and Stroll had also completed their first runs.
With 10 minutes remaining, both cars returned to the track on a second set of new soft tyres. They each improved their personal bests in Sectors 1 and 2, but Stroll went off at Turn 10 and into the gravel. Alonso, who was running behind him, also aborted his lap, and both cars returned to the pits without setting a valid time. At this point, Alonso was 21st and Stroll was 22nd.
The pair then went out for their final runs on a third set of new soft tyres. Stroll improved his personal best in all three sectors and moved up to 21st. Alonso followed, improving his personal bests in Sectors 2 and 3, but finished 0.057 seconds behind Stroll and ended qualifying in 22nd.

There are no surprises that we qualified at the back as we know this is our level of car performance right now. We had downshifting issues and it was very difficult to drive the car in each Qualifying lap. It’s always special to drive in front of the Spanish fans though and thanks to them for their amazing support over the weekend.

We're still suffering from drivability issues here in Barcelona. We're down on downforce, which is especially tough around this track, and we don't have the power we need. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

We knew coming into the weekend that this track would expose our true pace, and that is reflected in our qualifying result. Both drivers and the team gave it everything today, but we have to accept that this is our current position and do what we can in tomorrow’s race.

There are no surprises in our positions in today’s qualifying with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team. In FP3 this morning, we executed the power unit run plan on both cars with no cooling issues, in spite of the high track temperatures. We also worked on different deployment strategies to prepare for qualifying and tomorrow’s race.
